Elmhurst, Illinois is a city positioned in DuPage County. It is part of the Chicagoland metro area and is located about 18 miles west of downtown Chicago. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were about 46,000 people living in Elmhurst at the time of the 2016 census. Original inhabitants of the area surrounding Elmhurst were members of the Potawatomi Native American Indian tribe. In 1836, European-American immigrants settled in the area and Elmhurst was incorporated as a village in 1882.
